What’s your name, and where are you from?
I’m Gabrielle, but you can call me Gabby - it’s much shorter. I am a native New Yorker who was raised in Queens and now lives in Washington Heights in Manhattan. I even stayed in NYC for school; I graduated from CUNY Hunter College.
Why did you join the Instacart team?
I have always been passionate about all things food and food policy. During the height of the pandemic I worked to help make sure no New Yorker went hungry. I decided I wanted to devote my career to food access and joined the Instacart team to do so full time!
What is your role at Instacart?
I’m the Community Affairs Organizer for the Northeast, working to share your stories and experiences and strengthening the shopper community through events. I cover the entire area north of Delaware, except Massachusetts. Shoppers in Massachusetts can still reach out to my colleague, Sahiba.
What are you most excited about at Instacart?
Learning more about you! I can’t wait to meet shoppers like you across the northeast and learn more about you through conversations and at community events.
What’s your “side dish” — a hobby, a hidden talent, a fun fact that would surprise us about you?
I can wiggle my ears! It’s true! But in all seriousness, I have two tiny dogs, Bordeaux and Java, that love to hike with me.
What is always in your grocery shopping cart?
Ice cream is definitely a regular grocery item for me and a variety of flavors can always be found in my freezer. I consider it an all-year round food and not something I reserve just for summer. Do you have a favorite flavor that’s a must-try?
What does food access mean to you?
Food access means being able to access and enjoy nourishing food that reflects your cultural and geographic background and the ability to share it with those you love.
