Meet the Organizer, Sahiba! Community Affairs Central

Why did you join the Instacart team?

Having a parent who is immunocompromised, I saw first hand the positive impact Instacart has on people who are unable to shop for groceries due to the pandemic. Despite our busy schedules, my family has always made it a priority to cook and eat dinner together. We were able to maintain a sense of normalcy this past year because Instacart gave us access to fresh food and ingredients to continue this tradition. I find it so rewarding to now work for a company that I’ve enjoyed using this past year!

What is your role at Instacart?

My role involves launching a community affairs program with the goal to cultivate community among shoppers across the Midwest. A key part of this program is holding events to engage the shopper community based on the local areas you all shop and live. I hope to connect with shoppers around what events you would like to be a part of and explore how I can make it happen!

What are you most excited about at Instacart?

I am most excited about meeting diverse shoppers, and bringing us all together to share conversations and camaraderie. The pandemic has been really isolating, and I hope to combat that by creating virtual spaces for us to come together to share our stories.

What’s your “side dish” — a hobby, a hidden talent, a fun fact that would surprise us about you?

I love to sing and used to perform at open mics around Chicago before the pandemic.

What is always in your grocery shopping cart?

I enjoy ending my day with a cup of homemade chai, and always make sure I’m stocking up on all the necessary ingredients when I go grocery shopping.

What does food access mean to you?

To me, this means that all communities have the resources needed to access nutritious, healthy and affordable food. In order to combat food insecurity, we need to come together as a community and advocate for a more equitable food system. I love that Instacart is working to solve this problem by ensuring everyone has access to groceries.

Anything else you want to share with the shopper community?

Just that I am looking forward to speaking with shoppers and building on the community that makes shopping with Instacart so special.
