Our Massachusetts Policy Programming

Our team recently headed to Massachusetts, where we partnered with the Massachusetts Coalition for Independent Work (MCIW) to host rallies outside the Massachusetts State House and Springfield City Hall. Shoppers and other app-based drivers shared why flexibility and independence matters to them and the need for new benefits and protections. Shortly after these events, MCIW filed a groundbreaking ballot question that maintains your access to app-based work while establishing historic benefits, such as a guaranteed earnings minimum and access to healthcare stipends, paid sick leave, paid family and medical leave and occupational accident insurance.

Since the launch, hundreds of shoppers made their voices heard by signing on in support. Our coalition has hit the ground running to get this passed, but we need every shopper on board to show there’s strong support for this critical ballot question. You can click here to endorse the ballot question and stay updated on our ongoing efforts!

We later celebrated with pizza and drinks at an outdoor restaurant in Cambridge. We loved meeting incredible shoppers such as Habiba K, who shared with us why she supports the ballot question. She relies on the flexibility Instacart offers because as a single mom being able to earn extra money by shopping any time she has needed to has been essential for her.

The Community Affairs team looks forward to meeting more shoppers across the country and sharing upcoming opportunities to get involved. We hope you can join us at our next event!
