Connecting with the New York Shopper Community

This past year, we launched our Community Affairs program with a goal of building community among shoppers across North America. A key part of this program is holding events to engage with the shopper community in the local areas you all shop and live, bringing together full-service shoppers and our teams to share meals, conversation, and camaraderie.

Last week in Harlem, Instacart shift leads, local team members, and full-service shoppers from across the community gathered for our biggest New York shopper event to date. More than 50 shoppers from across the New York City area came together to share a meal and discuss their experiences.

Over delicious barbecue, shoppers were able to share what they love about Instacart, hear how Instacart is committed to its shoppers, and have a dialogue about what’s next with Instacart in their community. Shoppers cited flexibility as the number one reason they shop with Instacart, closely followed by the relationships they’ve made with the customer and shopper community.

Okena L., a shopper in Manhattan, said, “I like Instacart because it’s allowed me to help others and make ends meet by sometimes even referring them to the platform. I get satisfaction providing my services to customers. I love being an independent contractor because I’m able to still work my job and do Instacart. The flexibility is amazing.”

Similarly, Terrell D. from Manhattan said, “As an independent contractor for Instacart, I have been afforded the opportunity to make an income and still pursue other endeavors.”

This was the first New York community affairs event, and we look forward to holding many more across North America to continue building on the community that makes shopping with Instacart so special.
